The goats and pigs were brought during early attempts at settlement --very early: the 17th and 18th centuries. They have been feral residents ever since--and there are a lot of them. Even today, permits are often granted to hunters to cull them, but they are quite prolific (and know where to hide in the hundreds of caves). They are a hazard to endangered native species of plants, of course.
