Nice piece--and right on! It made me think-I didn't have a grandfather in my life (one died when I was a small child and the other was estranged from the family. His son, my father, was not much of a role model, either.) That said, I think I have learned by (negative) example and believe I can click off all the nurture and love items. I adore my four grandchildren and they seem to adore me. My two great-grandchildren are practically strangers, however. They live several thousand miles away--and several generations. The same ideas may apply here, but it is much harder to connect with them! I wonder if that is true in many families.
