I use Aperture, Apple's discontinued photo editing software. I like that it allows minimal adjustment without oversaturating the colors. I really don't change much, mostly crop, sharpen, and sometimes + or - exposure. I don't know what I'll do when it finally dies (it is very unstable right now). I also use Photos and find it ok mostof the time. I just don't like it doesn't allow for selective adjustments and its enhance is garbage. I have Viveza, an add-on to Aperure, that lets me adjust just a small section of the photo--such as tree leaves that are too bright or a flower that is too dark. I have an old version of Photoshop but I almost never use it--it is too complicated for my non-technical mind! When I worked at the magazine, all the graphic artists used Photoshop with Viveza and various pagemaking programs.
