I have traveled the world and have been to most of the places I wanted to see and some I didn’t! Part of it was my vocation: as an editor of a travel magazine and as a representative to a world travel organization, it was part of my job. And my military career son and his family lived in Germany and Italy for almost 29 years—and my daughter and son-in-law worked for an airline. Add to that my wife loves to travel and sometimes I acceded to her wanderlust. None of this was something I planned for my life (I wanted to be an Actor! Poet! Novelist! etc. My wanderlust was all internal. I don’t think we choose the path our lives take—so much of it is fate. or luck or circumstance or whatever. It is what we do with it that is important—as you point out. Do I lust after lost fame? Never. I am grateful for all of my life’s twists and turns. Now that I am about to turn 84, I feel—like that famous young lady—there is no place like home. (But I still have this wife whose middle name is wanderlust.)
