I ’d much rather have comments than claps. I have had my own quandry about them. When I get few, I wonder what I did wrong. When I see others get hundreds or thousands, I wonder what I am doing wrong. When I give claps, I try to give 25 if I think the post is good but not that good. I give 50 when it impresses me—or I am feeling gnerous. I usually give 15 to a comment. If I am on my Kindle (it is almost as old as I am, I give just a few no matter what. It is so slow I might fall asleep before it hits the top 50. I get lots of ones: almost always it is people new to Medium who were raised on Facebook. And, yes, agree, it really doesn’t matter. But I am the type of person who likes to have a system!
